Where will you be working?

The Role
We’re looking for a Senior Claims Specialist, responsible for the professional management and handling of claims arising from international and national freight transport.  In this role you will have the capacity to operate in a dynamic logistics environment where transport takes place worldwide by rail, road and sea, along with the knowledge to support the development of other team members.

 

Your responsibilities will be to: 

  • Manage and process equipment and liability claims relating to transport and logistics (damage, loss, delay).

  • Assess liability based on legal conditions of carriage and contractual agreements.

  • Application and interpretation of international treaties and terms.

  • Maintain contact with relevant fleet departments, clients, carriers, insurers, lawyers, and surveyors worldwide.

  • Negotiate settlements and recovery files.

  • Prepare claim reports, risk analyses and management information.

  • Work with SHEQ and other departments to identify structural causes of damage and advise on preventative measures.

  • Contribute to the optimization of claims processes and internal procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations, and internal compliance requirements.

Job requirements

Successful candidates will have:

  • In depth knowledge of legal transport conditions and international regulations including CMR, Hague-Visby Rules, Hamburg Rules and Incoterms.

  • Demonstrable experience in claims management within the logistics or transport sector, ideally with knowledge of the food sector.

  • Experience with internationally operating stakeholders and complex claims files.

  • Strong analytical skills and legal acumen, with the capacity to draw information from various sources, and handle complex documents.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a strong capacity to collaborate with team members.

  • Practical, proactive, innovative, accurate and stress-resistant work ethic.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise workload, learning quickly and working at pace.

 

In addition, it would be advantageous to have: 

  • Completed higher professional or university degree, preferably in Law, Logistics Management or Insurance.

  • Potential to manage and provide extensive guidance to diverse team of claims handlers (based in a number of locations).

  • CII qualifications.

  • Effective time, planning and project management skills.
