A new role has been created within our Dry Bulk Division in Vietnam - the Technical Engineer is an integral role within Vietnam, overseeing all technical activities, equipment and operation across Vietnam in line with agreed technical parameters.
The Technical Engineer will work closely with the Senior Technical Manager APAC, the General Manager Thailand & Indochina (on day-to-day requirements) and the Key Account Manager - Vietnam (on business development projects) and is responsible for effectively managing technical resources.
This role requires an individual with extensive knowledge & experience in truck, compressor, rotary valves that utilize in transporting Dry Bulk products. For appropriate control of Dry Bulk Technical Resources - People & Equipment - this role requires hands-on, proactive day-to-day execution and collaboration with the key account manager.
A primary focus for the Technical Engineer will be to support new business development. You must therefore be comfortable dealing with customers as you will be the face of the company representing Den Hartogh Dry Bulk Logistics during customer visits for technical discussions.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Key Activity 1 - Responsible for Equipment Management and Maintenance of Dry Bulk Vietnam
- Coordinate and control DH (Dry Handling) equipment, including tipping trailers, containers, compressors, rotary valves, and discharge accessories.
- Ensure efficient asset utilization by overseeing preventive maintenance and spare part control.
Key Activity 2 - Responsible for the Discharge Operations
- Collaborate with discharge operator coordinators, trucking vendors, and train vendors to align discharge schedules with facility readiness.
- Manage any additional costs related to trucking vendors, train vendors, and third-party depots in conjunction with the Commercial team.
- Promotes development of Team members (not only technical but include with operation team) by acquiring new skills, knowledge & experience
Key Activity 3 – Project Management – Business Development
- Contributes proactively to help grow the Dry Bulk business in Vietnam
- Persistent commitment to introducing innovation within our Products & Services
- Customer centric - assesses technical requirements of Customers & Prospects
- Geographic centric - assesses technical requirements by region of operation in HMC and Hanoi.
Key Activity 4 – Technical Expertise and Compliance
- DH Equipment Repair:
- Conduct repairs and maintenance on various Dry Handling equipment, including tipping trailers, containers, compressors, rotary valves, and discharge accessories (e.g., air hose, transfer hose, tundish, silencer).
- Diagnose technical issues and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions to identify the root cause of problems.
- Perform timely and effective repairs to restore equipment functionality and optimize performance.
- Check and verify third-party depot repair estimates and ensure the quality control of third-party depot repairs.
- · Preventive Maintenance:
- Collaborate with the Technical Team to schedule and perform regular preventive maintenance on DH equipment.
- Inspect and assess equipment to identify potential issues and address them proactively to prevent breakdowns.
- · Quality Control:
- Ensure all repairs and maintenance are conducted to high-quality standards and comply with safety regulations.
- Verify the quality of repairs and the proper functioning of equipment after repairs are completed.
- · Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of equipment repairs, maintenance, and service history.
- Prepare detailed reports on equipment conditions, repairs performed, and any required follow-up actions.
- Review and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), Emergency Response Plan (ERP), and Risk Hazard Management (RHM) for both new and existing customers.
- Support safety programs for discharge operators, the technical team, and drivers, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and SOPs.
- Review and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), Emergency Response Plan (ERP), and Risk Hazard Management (RHM) for both new and existing customers.

Key Activity 4 – Design & Engineering
- Engineer customized solutions for Loading & Unloading processes at new customer sites
- Review existing technical set ups & devise improvements to existing equipment or services.
- Design innovative technical solutions that fulfills and exceed customer needs and expectations.
- Collaborate with the Technical Team to ensure solutions align with operational requirements.
Key Activity 5 – Supplier Management and Quotation Process:
- Source suppliers for technical equipment and services required for CAPEX projects.
- Manage the quotation process, ensuring competitive pricing and compliance with project specifications.
- Coordinate effectively with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of equipment and materials.
- Oversee the procurement process, ensuring all required technical equipment and materials are obtained in a timely manner.
- Handle administrative tasks related to CAPEX projects, including documentation and record-keeping.
- Implement cost control measures to optimize project spending and resource allocation.
- Monitor project expenses and ensure adherence to the approved budgets.
Key Activity 6 – Implementation & Commissioning
- Oversee on-site installation of equipment, field engineering, risk assessment, and trial run activities.
- Lead startup commissioning and ensure smooth implementation of projects to meet the full-service scope.
- Ensure compliance with international, local, and customers' Operational Procedures (OPs) and Safety Standards.
- Provide training to relevant personnel, including Operators, Drivers, and third-party contractors.
- Define, draft, and issue Operational Procedures to ensure efficient and safe operations.
Key Activity 7 – Contributes strategically to Dry Bulk Asia
- Works closely with the technical Team and Country Management
- Co-ordinates with key internal stakeholders to help implement active business plans
- Assists in developing strategies that deliver process improvement and operational change
- Manages Strategic Partners, Representatives & Agents effectively
Job requirements
Essential Job Requirements:
- An Engineering degree from a recognized institution. Preferably with electrical or mechanical background.
- 5 to 7 years of proven technical experience, ideally with a mix of field and office exposure.
- Fluent in English, possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate with technical terms.
- A practical, hands-on, and proactive approach to problem-solving is essential.
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking mindset.
- A team player
- familiarity with pneumatic conveying systems, hydraulics, and electrics is desirable, both in office and field settings.
- Previous experience in companies dealing with Logistics & Transportation is a plus.
- Knowledge of Truck and Trailer mechanics is a plus.
- Some exposure to human resource management and strategic personnel planning is beneficial.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel domestically and occasionally internationally, based on project requirements.
