The Role
We are looking for a motivated and driven Transport Planner to join our team. Your role will be to efficiently plan our fleet and drivers while meeting customer expectations, product requirements and legal regulations.
In this key operational role, your responsibilities will be to deliver exceptional service standards and deliver strong operational performance, specifically:
Plan and execute daily transport activities to meet customer requirements and service levels, ensuring route optimisation, product compatibility, driver qualifications and fleet availability.
Monitor real-time operational performance and escalate issues to maintain service continuity, ensuring compliance with ADR, Working Time Directive, driver hours and all relevant transport legislation.
Communicate clear trip details and updates to drivers, supporting effective two-way communication.
Book and track intermodal transport (ferry/rail) in collaboration with central modality teams and manage equipment repositioning and availability for maintenance and inspections.
Act as first point of contact for Near Miss and Action Reporting processes, ensuring accurate documentation and stakeholder feedback.
Track cost-impacting factors such as wasted trips, demurrage and fixed trucking, ensuring accurate recharge.
Use dashboards and planning tools to monitor and enhance KPI delivery and continuous improvement across our transport operations.
Job requirements
Successful candidates
Will have strong organisational skills, be an excellent communicator and eager to understand our business. Furthermore, you will have:
CPC qualification (or willingness to obtain)
Mechanical/technical understanding of commercial vehicles and safe operation
Sound knowledge of UK transport legislation, compliance regulations for HGVs, chemicals and gases
Experience in transport administration or coordination, including planning and route optimisation
Strong IT skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; ability to learn TMS and compliance systems
Effective problem-solving skills; ability to act quickly in response to operational issues
Strong communication skills for engaging with drivers, management and customers
Ability to work independently in the field and manage own time effectively
